“Beauty is everywhere, right at the tips of our noses! I feel blessed to see the world with a sense of wonder.” Zoe Perry

Former Yass-based and now Newcastle-based painter Zoe Perry will be one of the amazing artists in Tyger’s upcoming group show, Living in Another World.

Tyger is thrilled to welcome the exciting Newcastle-based artist Zoe Perry to the gallery for our upcoming abstract landscapes show, Living in Another World.

The show brings together 40 artists from all over the country to show us the world we know and love through an abstracted lens.

Living in Another World runs from 19-28 April at Tyger Gallery in Yass. The online catalogue for the show will go out to subscribers in the week before opening. Sign up here to make sure you don’t miss out.

Zoe’s piece in the show is the gorgeous Freedom Beyond Fear, a 58x84cm acrylic on canvas work inspired by the Blue Mountains in New South Wales.

Ahead of the show, Zoe told us about how travel has informed her work, being inspired by moments of stillness, and her hope that viewers of the work are inspired to feel more connected to the earth.

How would you describe your work?

“My work is both explorative and symbolic. My pieces often carry a message or an expression of a theme I am working through at the time, in my personal journey. I enjoy translating my perspectives of natural landscapes and also the landscapes of the female body.”

“My painting style is certainly more abstract and expressive, and my choice of colour palette varies from muted and serene to vibrant and joyful, depending on the mood of the work.”

Tell us about where and how you create your work?

“Much of my most recent work has been created or conceptualised while travelling and engaging directly with nature and various landscapes. One small body of work was created and inspired on a solo trip to the Northern Territory, and captured mostly in watercolour and ink on paper. Another recent body of work was created while travelling in a van for five months up and down the east side of Australia in 2023.”

“Most recently, I have been creating with acrylic on canvas from my new home in Newcastle, inspired by my new surroundings of ocean and earth.”

What inspires you?

“I am often inspired by moments of stillness in a natural oasis. I feel most myself when adventuring out in nature, and I enjoy meditation and contemplative reflection. My creative practice often feels like a bridge between the two. I can bring my love for natures’ colours and formations together in a meditative process, onto canvas or paper. I am also inspired by the female form, and its ability to act as a portal of life, and a piece of art unto itself.”

What do you hope people feel when they see your work?

“I offer my painted perspectives of mother earth and the female body through the lens of my personal journey. I hope the viewer is inspired to feel more connected to the earth that holds us, and the bodies that carry us around every day.”

“Beauty is everywhere, right at the tips of our noses! I feel blessed to see the world with a sense of wonder and I hope the viewer can see this too through my art.”

Register now for our opening celebrations of Living in Another World - Saturday 20 April, 2-4pm.
