Rachel Moodie

Rachel Moodie is an artist, designer and multifaceted creative. Rachel paints, collages, teaches, writes, curates and designs.

“There are many strings to my bow and you will often find me juggling multiple balls and wearing many creative hats,” she says.

“Years ago when I lived in Sydney our house was on a hill above Darling Mills Creek. I wanted a name for my creative studio and Darling Mills resonated. My Nan had always called us 'darlings' and I have a fascination with old ways, old things, old crafts, paper and fabrics; so the connotation of a darling 'mill' just fit!”

“My inner critic is called Gertrude and she’s my podcasting assistant on my perfectly imperfect podcast; 'Casting the Inner Critic’.

Rachel’s background is in graphic and web design, arts marketing, gallery management, curation, illustration agency management and event co-ordination. She has a BFA from the College of Fine Arts, UNSW and The University of Ulster in Belfast Northern Ireland, and Graphic Design qualifications from Shillington College, Sydney.

She has been an exhibiting artist since 2007 with shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and other regional areas of Australia. Her works are held in private collections in Australia and overseas.

In 2017 she published a book on motherhood and creativity called 'The Artful Mum' which is a series of interviews with fabulous artist mothers.

“These days my artworks are predominantly mixed media and collage. There are many, many layers in each painting and I use acrylics, inks, pastels, paint pens, spray paint, pencil, paper ephemera and more. My latest pieces are painterly collages exploring the essence, light and shadow of what blooms around me.”

She lives in the Southern Highlands of NSW with her husband, 2 children, puppy and 8 chickens.
