Elizabeth Burton

Elizabeth Burton is an Australian artist and printmaker, born in Grafton in Northern NSW.

After a career in international finance and stockbroking, she changed direction and after further study developed a successful art practice, which has prospered for more than 30 years.

As a result, she has exhibited and taught artists’ workshops in Brisbane, Moss Vale and throughout Australia as well as Florence, Italy.

Elizabeth’s journey has been shaped by rich experimentation in botanical illustration, watercolours, oils, mixed media and printmaking and encaustic painting.

Underpinning her multi-disciplinary, sometimes multi-media, approach is her mastery of drawing and understanding of the power of the simplicity of line.

This is reflected in the beauty of Elizabeth’s flowers and mixed media landscapes, working with acrylic paints, inks and collage materials to create different surfaces and textures in the artwork.

She takes her inspiration from the natural world, Australian landscape from realism to abstraction.

Elizabeth enjoys the painterly effects of using pure colour in her distinctive still life and “part of life” works which draw on the very essence of the subject without being tied down by traditional approaches, her later work is now classed as ‘Intuitive Abstraction’

Elizabeth has work in permanent public collections and museums:

  • Artist book “Sognare Sotto la Luna Piena” is in the permanent collection of Manuscripts and Rare Books at the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Firenze.

  • Morandi’s life exhibition in Bologna, Italy,
