A WISH

22 – 31 May 2026

A Wish is a Tyger Project show by Sydney-based abstract artist Kathleen Wigan.

Bringing together a collection of richly layered abstract works, A Wish explores colour, texture and intuitive mark-making. Kathleen’s practice is grounded in instinct and responsiveness, allowing each work to evolve naturally through the process of painting.

Originally from Hobart, Kathleen draws on a long connection to landscape, travel and atmosphere. Her paintings balance softness and structure, creating calm, contemplative works. Kathleen was a finalist in the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award in 2023.

Importantly, A Wish is also shaped by Kathleen’s belief that original art should feel accessible and able to be lived with. Many works incorporate sustainably sourced materials and are intentionally offered at approachable price points, creating an inviting entry point for new collectors while still rewarding long engagement and repeat viewing.

  • Kathleen, originally from Hobart, Tasmania, developed an early connection to nature and environmental change. Her work reflects a respect for space, light and intentional mark-making. Influenced by travel, each piece remains open to interpretation, shifting with light and context. Built in layered compositions, her artworks reveal depth over time, inviting closer viewing while exploring palette, hue and the application of pigment.

  • “As it has been for some years now, and will continue to be in the future, my intention to provide an opportunity for most people to be able purchase an original artwork.

“Once you are in possession of an original artwork, your space is instantly uplifted. Spending many hours admiring the work. Wondering what the artist was thinking. Why they chose this palette to convey their story. Opening conversation with visitors to your space about the piece you have now adopted and what you love about it most.

“Originals are one of a kind. Often if the artist is requested to reproduce a similar artwork, especially if it is an abstract piece, this is almost impossible to do. This is mainly because when we are painting, adding brush strokes and those intentional marks, it is done in an almost subconscious way. Applying pigment, a touch darker, slightly softer and a bold mark here, subtle implications of shape - and you have it. Starting with a plan but going with your visual gut.

“When possible, I use sustainably sourced materials. Often boards or canvases that are framed in less expensive materials. This process allows me to offer originals at an affordable rate. If you love the artwork but want an elaborate frame - that choice is yours.”

  • Tyger Projects are short-run shows that bring a focused body of work onto the walls at Tyger for a limited time. They’re designed for artists who already have a resolved body of work and are looking for a low-pressure, time-bound opportunity to see it installed, experienced and encountered in the gallery.

The Projects allow us to respond quickly to work we believe in, and to support artists at important moments in their practice. Sitting alongside our regular program, Tyger Projects evolve organically throughout the year and create space for experimentation, risk-taking and surprise – while still offering artists and audiences a considered, thoughtful gallery experience.

  • A Wish runs 22–31 May at Tyger Gallery.

    We’re open:

    Saturday 10am – 2pm
    Sunday 10am – 2pm
    Monday 10am – 2pm
