“I imagine all the wild places I love - cliffs, sky, mountains, oceans and wild weather - and mix them together in one painting that imagines a journey through them all.” Penny Deacon

Penny Deacon will be one of the amazing artists in Tyger’s upcoming group show, Living in Another World.

Tyger is so pleased to welcome the super-talented local favourite Penny Deacon for our upcoming abstract landscapes show, Living in Another World.

The show brings together around 40 artists from all over the country to show us the world we know and love through an abstracted lens.

Living in Another World runs from 19-28 April at Tyger Gallery in Yass. The online catalogue for the show will go out to subscribers soon. Sign up here now to make sure you don’t miss out on your favourite works.

Penny’s gorgeous work in the show is Ice, an 11”x14” oil on cradled board painting. It is *so beautiful*.

Ahead of the show opening, Penny told us about capturing wild places and wild weather, and painting a journey.

How would you describe your work?

“My abstract paintings are self-indulgent. I imagine all the wild places I love - cliffs, sky, mountains, oceans and wild weather - and mix them together in one painting that imagines a journey through them all.”

Where and how you create your work?

“As much as possible I paint outside, ideally on a mountain with a big view of the sky. I also paint at home with the aid of photos I have taken during adventures to nice places.”

What inspires you?

“Like most of us, I am inspired by being in nature. I love adventures outdoors, especially rock climbing, canyoning and back country skiing. Luckily these hobbies take me to amazing places in the Australian bush.”

What do you hope people feel when they see your work?

“I hope they feel the same excitement that I do about wild places and wild weather.”

Anything else you want to tell us?

“I’m delighted to be part of this exhibition, and honoured to be sharing the space with so many talented artists. Thank you Tyger Gallery!”

Register now for our opening celebrations of Living in Another World - Saturday 20 April, 2-4pm.

“Working with found objects, I let the object guide me. Holding the object and considering the different aspects, I reflect on which memory the object evokes.” Valeska Tilly
