  • EA Luhtaniemi is Canberra Artist, working from a home studio on Ngunnawal Land. As a dual citizen of Finland and Australia, she is influenced heavily by her Nordic heritage. While she has a deep love of Australia as her home, she feels a sense of longing and connection for the cooler climates and cultures of Europe.

Her works, which often depict modern impressionist interpretations of Nordic landscapes are also an ode to her family, including her late Mother, and the enduring connection of intergenerational memory.

Enita draws inspiration from nature, landscapes, places and weather. She likes to explore the interplay between light and dark to convey mood, time or movement. Her work is primarily in acrylic paint on stretched canvas or canvas boards, using sometimes juxtaposing techniques. This means that her work shifts from at times feather-light, such as the depiction of soft clouds or fogs, to choppy, even harsh textures in snows, rocks, trees or grasses.

Enita balances a part-time art practice, with a career in the not-for-profit sector and raising a family. She is often joined by her labrador Bailey when she creates in her home studio, and her children are her biggest supporters. She always works by candlelight and coffee.

A quietly emerging, introspective, yet professional part-time artist, EA Luhtaniemi has exhibited and sold works in both Australia and Finland.

  • “This is an interpretive piece capturing the solitude of winter and the introspection it brings. It aims to juxtapose softer brush stroke with choppy palette knife, and colour with shadow, to convey the duality of nature and mind - rugged and peaceful at once. Sometimes we yearn for open spaces and extended silence. I wanted the world to feel vast and pristine when I painted it.”
