Chantal is an Australian artist who grew up in many outback and small country towns throughout Australia in an era where outdoor play was the mode of life.
She now calls the Gippsland region with its beautiful natural landscapes home.
Chantal is interested in how we live on the earth in a way that reduces our impact and cares about this in both her work practices and the way she lives.
Chantal often uses natural ochres and pigments that are native to the places that hold deep meaning for her.
Chantal believes we are of nature and as such should work to live in harmony with it. In it and of it rather than trying to control it. By using loose gestural marks she hopes to convey this sense of letting go of control and allowing ourselves to be within the cycles and imperfect systems of nature.

What is the story of this work?
“Reflecting on the beautiful Kosciuszko park. A place that lifted my spirits and carried inspiration into my work. This beautiful country I call home.”
“My work doesn't seek to replicate nature because how could I? Rather, I seek to embody its energy, its rhythm, its spirit.”
Tell us about how you created your work
“My work is created from layering paint and mixed media in multiple layers. I will spend many sessions adding energy and layers of creativity to a piece. I start with play and allow the piece to develop and tell its own story. “
“Incorporating earth pigments from the places I am inspired by allows me to feel connected to the work physically while music and energy influence my brushstrokes.”
What particular challenges came from working on a piece of this size?
“Transporting the art from Victoria to Yass is definitely my biggest challenge.”
What do you hope people feel when they see your work?
“That our country is beautiful and worth exploring. Get out there and feel it. Embrace the energy of creation. It is healing.”
“I love sharing my work with others. When collectors feel a connection to the piece enough to make it a part of their story is a feeling that words can’t express. I’m so grateful for those that have taken a piece of my art and connected my story to theirs. What an honour.”
