Artist Jessica Olpp painting.

Jessica Olpp grew up in the beautiful bushlands of Warrandyte, and has lived and worked in France. She is currently based in Caulfield North, Melbourne.

Jessica has always nurtured her creative side through dance, poetry and the study of foreign languages. She is a self-taught artist who began painting in 2022 as a means of self-expression, with a view of creating moments of calm in her busy life as a French teacher. Jessica is inspired by the colour palettes of both Australia and France, beautiful skies, memories of overseas travel as well as the simplicity of still life moments.

She has been a finalist in the Toowoomba Gallery Next Big Thing Art Prize (2023), the Corner Store Gallery Mini Series Art Prize (2023) and the Waverley Woollahra Art School 9x5 Landscape Prize (2023).

DOMICILE ET TERRAIN is an atmospheric collection of work shifting between the still-life and landscape genres. With soft brushstrokes and a dreamy palette, Jessica’s paintings capture the beauty of domestic subjects such as a solitary pear, through to billowing clouds over the countryside.

The artist describes her paintings as art for the home which is inherently calming. "When I paint I often find myself lost in the moment,” says Jessica of her practice.

“I hope that viewing this work allows for quiet contemplation of shape, colour and distance, perhaps evoking a sense of anemoia or nostalgia for places unvisited, and highlighting an appreciation for the unassuming domestic space."
