Alan lives in Yass. Visual Art has always been a passion and occupation in one form or another: He trained as a Secondary School Art teacher, studied Art history and Curatorship, and later Graphic Design. As well as teaching, he has run a retail business for over 20 years specialising in Australian craftwork.
This is Alan’s 6th exhibition and second at Tyger Gallery. Although he has always drawn and painted, recently he has been able to devote an increasing amount of time to his own art practice.
Alan paints with oils - still lifes, landscapes, streetscapes and abstracts.
This new group of paintings is called The Passing View.
“My subjects or ‘views’ are rarely deliberately sought out, rather they are chanced upon, often when out walking.”
“The pictures are as much about evoking personal experience as they are about exact visual appearance. I aim to create strong compositions with geometry and colour, capturing aspects that are not usually observed at a conscious level, such as shadows and reflections. I always work from my own photos and drawings.”
Alan Harding, 2025.

🧡 25% of all proceeds from The Passing View will be donated to Can Assist — a remarkable charity providing direct support to people in our communities affected by cancer. This donation from Alan and Tyger means every purchase you make from this show helps someone who needs it.
“A passing view from Barton Highway, our speed smudging the foregfround.”
“One hill has a winding dirt road leading to the top. Banking clouds create high peaks above the gentle hills.”
Alan Harding, 2025.
