“I never plan a painting and always paint from the heart. I love seeing what evolves on the canvas. A finished painting is like a visit from an old friend.” Greta Hounslow

The superb Greta Hounslow will be one of the artists in Tyger’s upcoming group show, Living in Another World.

Tyger is thrilled to welcome the superb Greta Hounslow to the gallery for our upcoming abstract landscapes show, Living in Another World.

The show brings together around 40 artists from all over the country to show us the world we know and love through an abstracted lens.

Register now for our opening celebrations of Living in Another World - Saturday 20 April, 2-4pm.

Greta’s gorgeous piece in the show is Clearing Rain, a 50x50cm acrylic on canvas work rich in colour. We absolutely love it.

Ahead of the show, Greta told us about painting without a plan, revisiting landscapes in memory, and being inspired by nature.

How would you describe your work?

“Australiana, eclectic abstract landscapes holding the true essence of Australia.”

Tell us about where and how you create your work?

“I work intuitively from my sunny home beachside studio. My layered, patchwork style has evolved naturally to suit my lifestyle. Homeschooling our son, I paint in fits and starts when I get the chance!”

“I never plan a painting and always paint from the heart, staying true to myself and my true essence. I love seeing what evolves on the canvas. A finished painting is like a visit from an old friend.”

What inspires you?

“I am in constant awe with the colours, textures and shapes I see in nature everyday. I take inspiration from the natural world, the flow of the seasons, the Australian outback, fauna and flora, travels and my life experiences. Painting intuitively means I get to unintentionally revisit country I haven’t seen or sometimes thought about for many years.”

What do you hope people feel when they see your work?

“I hope my work transports the viewer to another place and time. A moment when their worries are on hold as their eyes glide around my work, reading the colours like poetry. There are always so many layers of treasures to find and discover in each painting, each piece has a different story to tell.”

Living in Another World runs from 19-28 April at Tyger Gallery in Yass. The online catalogue for the show will go out to subscribers in the week before opening. Sign up here to make sure you don’t miss out.
