  • Kelly Anne Shaw uses her art practice as a way of revealing a deep reverence for moments of stillness. Through careful observation, she notices quiet acts of resilience, translating these into works that function not as exact representations, but as emotional impressions.

Working primarily with charcoal and acrylic, Shaw draws directly from the natural world. Charcoal’s raw, earthy qualities create gestural marks reminiscent of fleeting shadows, while layered acrylic paint introduces light, depth and narrative.

Much of her flora is sourced from her extensive ornamental garden and surrounding Australian native wildlife corridor, forming the basis for expressive still life, botanical and bird-focused compositions. Her work functions as a kind of visual diary, cataloguing ongoing creative exploration.

Shaw is based in Hartley in the Central West of New South Wales, on Wiradjuri Country, where her home studio is shared with the birdlife that continues to inspire her practice.

  • “This piece draws inspiration from the artist’s garden, where the boundary between nature and home softens through arrangements of flora brought indoors as still life. Superb Fairy Wrens peer in from the periphery blurring the line between viewer and subject as if deciding whether to step fully into the story.”

    Kelly Anne Shaw, 2025.
