  • Lucy Juhnke is an emerging artist based in Port Macquarie, NSW, best known for her intimate and boldly coloured still life paintings.

She has been exhibiting locally since 2021, including in group shows such as In Skin, curated by Anne de Nooijer, the collaborative exhibition Dream with Kiata Mason, and There Might Be Cake at Laneway Gallery (2025). Beyond the Mid North Coast, Juhnke exhibited in Life in Colour at Tyger Gallery in Yass in 2024, where she also hosted her first artist workshop.

Primarily a painter, Juhnke works with a range of media including acrylic, oil pastel, and found or reclaimed materials to convey heightened emotional landscapes. Her expressive surfaces often involve physical processes such as scraping, sanding and stapling, leading her to work predominantly on wood panel. Through this approach, she examines perception, value and the relationship between self and environment.

In addition to her studio practice, Juhnke has curated exhibitions at various venues in Port Macquarie, including the shared Thistle Flowers and Four Espresso space.

  • “These wilting roses draw our attention to the finer details. Exaggerated veins, over clear coated wood panel focus our attention on the interweaving patterns and materials. I painted these roses from life, over a few days. They were inspired by a poem by an anonymous Port Macquarie writer. Of course, as time passed the roses were slowly dying. I have captured this life force of movement, change, and early stages of decay in a still image.”
