Cheryl McCoy is a printmaker of Aboriginal and convict heritage. Her practice is grounded in memory, story and connection to Country — a dialogue between what is remembered, what is lost, and what continues to resonate across generations.
These works began with a poem that sparked McCoy’s curiosity about imagined moments following the arrival of the British at Warrane. She became preoccupied with how both Aboriginal people and convicts endured the disruption of the familiar, and how each carried a yearning for what was known and ordinary. Through her prints, McCoy seeks to give form to fleeting reflections and unspoken longings, visualising experiences that were often silenced.
